Salary Survey Results 2025

Marine Fuels Salary Survey Results and Recommendations for the Trading Year 2025

As the Bunker and marine Fuels industry continues to grow internationally in multiple locations, Imperium Commodity Search has once again teamed up with industry news specialists Ship & Bunker to release a Marine Fuels Salary Survey report that helps paint a picture of the global salary and employment landscape for the year 2025.

The report uses data compiled from over 350 individuals and includes both responses to a recent jointly held online survey on Ship & Bunker plus compiled data from actual industry placements of bunker and marine fuels traders here at Imperium Commodity Search.

Browse through the slides below to read the main findings of this new report.

The report finds that the global average base salary for bunker traders, converted to USD, has grown from just under $105,000/year in 2024  to just over $119,000/year in 2025.

Following a period of elevated inflationary pressure globally, the 2025 results show a continued shift in how bunker professionals are being compensated. Base salaries have increased year-on-year, reflecting a sustained focus on fixed remuneration and longer-term retention when compared to 2024 levels.

Bonus outcomes, however, have moderated. While still forming a meaningful component of overall compensation, variable pay has softened on average, suggesting a more cautious and performance-linked approach across the market. As a result, total compensation has continued to rise modestly, driven primarily by growth in basic salary rather than outsized bonus payments.

This rebalancing is also evident when viewed by experience level.

Compensation differentials continue to widen at the senior end of the market, with experienced traders commanding materially higher total packages, while early- and mid-career salary progression remains steady rather than accelerated.

Overall, the data points to a market that is becoming more disciplined and structured in its approach to pay. For employers, this reflects greater confidence and control around cost management; for professionals, it reinforces the importance of experience, consistency and long-term performance in driving compensation outcomes.
