Title: Futures & Options Broker (Softs & Ags)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Bonus
Location: Home Counties, UK

Imperium Commodity Search are working with a new start-up commodity brokerage who, after spending a year building out the back and middle office functions, are looking for experienced brokers with transferrable business in the softs / ags space to join their team in the Home Counties. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with futures and options but will also have handled / some fundamental knowledge of clearing & execution business.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain the futures & options business within the soft commodity space, originating new business from scratch and building existing relationships
  • Prospecting for clients and business development (cold calling, qualifying, building the pipeline of deal)
  • Monitoring and analyzing market performance internationally and communicating it to customers
  • Writing daily market updates, news summaries, performing forward curve assessments and producing daily market letters
  • Networking to attract new clients, to build and maintain relationships with existing customers
  • Engaging with market players, relevant PRA agencies, analysts, and exchanges to evaluate and identify the need for new derivatives contracts in the space

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a broker in softs / agricultural products with a track record of success.
  • Ideal experience is in Coffee, Cocoa or Grains though other soft commodities can be considered – must have an existing and transferrable book of business
  • Degree in Sustainable Finance, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Business, Commodity Trading
  • Ideally worked to develop a new market in a previously relevant role
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Commercial mindset and hunger to succeed in a competitive commission-based environment
  • Solid understanding of the markets and related terminology
  • Ability to multitask and quickly understand and analyse complex information
  • Confident, adaptable, builds relationships easily and interacts well under pressure
  • Technical understanding of derivatives and financial derivatives (futures, options, swaps)
  • Fluency in English; fluency in any other European languages an added advantage
