Imperium Commodity Search

Title: Senior RINs Broker

Contract type: Permanent

Location: United States – location flexible for the right individual

Retained & Exclusive Vacancy

Imperium Commodity Search is confidentially retained by a growing, independent US commodity brokerage with established experience across biofuels and environmental commodity markets. As part of the next phase of its growth, our client is seeking an experienced RINs Broker to deepen its existing market coverage and develop a significant standalone brokerage book.

The business combines a strong existing network in physical renewable fuels with a deliberately mature and low-bureaucracy working environment. Brokers are treated as experienced professionals and are given the autonomy to determine where they should focus, which relationships they should develop and how best to grow their market.

This does not mean operating in isolation. Teamwork across RINs, physical biofuels, carbon and related environmental products is a major part of the firm’s model. Brokers are encouraged to share information and relationships, collaborate across desks and develop business that would be difficult to capture within a more siloed brokerage structure.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a profitable brokerage book across Renewable Identification Numbers and related US renewable fuel compliance markets.
  • Facilitate transactions between refiners, obligated parties, renewable fuel producers, blenders, marketers, trading houses and other active market participants.
  • Provide timely bids, offers, price discovery and relevant market colour across the RINs complex.
  • Maintain and grow established client relationships while identifying new counterparties and sources of liquidity.
  • Monitor developments under the Renewable Fuel Standard and communicate relevant market and regulatory developments to clients.
  • Work closely with physical ethanol, biodiesel, renewable fuels and environmental market brokers to identify cross-product opportunities.
  • Support the onboarding of new clients and the opening of appropriate trading lines in conjunction with operations and compliance.
  • Help shape the longer-term direction of the RINs desk, including product focus, client coverage and potential team expansion.
  • Represent the business professionally at relevant industry meetings, conferences and market events.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience broking RINs or operating in a directly relevant commercial position within the renewable fuels market.
  • A strong network across refiners, obligated parties, producers, blenders, marketers, trading companies and other RINs market participants.
  • Proven ability to generate brokerage revenue and build long-term client relationships.
  • Good understanding of the Renewable Fuel Standard, RIN generation and retirement, compliance requirements and the commercial drivers of the market.
  • Transferable relationships or an active market network, subject to existing contractual obligations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide useful, accurate and timely market information.
  • Entrepreneurial and self-directed, with the judgement to determine where the best commercial opportunities sit.
  • Collaborative by nature and willing to work closely with brokers covering physical biofuels, LCFS, carbon and other environmental products.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion and professional conduct.

The firm is not looking to impose a rigid strategy on an experienced RINs broker. Management will provide support, infrastructure and access to the wider platform, while trusting the incoming individual to make sensible decisions about how their market should be developed.
