Senior Environmental Markets Broker

Imperium Commodity Search

Title: Senior Environmental Markets Broker – Carbon / LCFS / RECs / CCAs

Contract type: Permanent

Location: United States – location flexible for the right individual

Retained & Exclusive Vacancy

Imperium Commodity Search is confidentially retained by a privately held and growing US commodity brokerage. As part of the continued expansion of its environmental markets platform, our client is seeking experienced brokers with established coverage across Carbon, Low Carbon Fuel Standard credits, Renewable Energy Certificates, California Carbon Allowances and related environmental products.

The mandate is intentionally broad. The firm is not expecting one individual to be a leading broker across every environmental acronym. It is interested in people with genuine depth, relationships and commercial credibility within one or more relevant markets who can develop their specialist area while collaborating with adjacent desks.

The company operates as a grown-up brokerage. Experienced brokers are trusted to decide where to direct their time, which products and relationships offer the strongest opportunity and how their market should be developed. Management remains accessible and supportive but does not micromanage established professionals or create unnecessary corporate layers.

Teamwork is equally important. The wider business brings together expertise across biofuels, renewable credits, physical commodities and environmental markets, giving incoming brokers the opportunity to share relationships, market information and commercial opportunities across the platform.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a profitable brokerage book within one or more environmental commodity markets, including Carbon, LCFS, RECs and CCAs.
  • Facilitate transactions between utilities, energy companies, renewable fuel producers, trading houses, financial participants, project developers, corporates and other compliance market participants.
  • Provide accurate bids, offers, price discovery, market colour and commentary across your specialist environmental markets.
  • Maintain and expand established client relationships while introducing new counterparties and sources of liquidity.
  • Monitor regulatory, legislative and market developments that may affect pricing, liquidity and client requirements.
  • Help clients navigate the commercial implications of changing compliance obligations and environmental market structures.
  • Work with the firm’s RINs and physical biofuels brokers to identify relevant cross-product and cross-client opportunities.
  • Coordinate with operations and compliance teams to support client onboarding and the efficient execution of business.
  • Influence the future direction of the environmental platform, including product expansion and additional hiring where appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Established brokerage experience within at least one relevant environmental commodity market.
  • Relevant product backgrounds may include Carbon allowances and offsets, LCFS credits, Renewable Energy Certificates, CCAs or associated compliance products.
  • A proven record of generating revenue and maintaining active commercial relationships.
  • An established network among utilities, trading houses, energy companies, corporates, project developers or other environmental market participants.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory and commercial framework governing your specialist market.
  • The ability to provide informed and reliable market colour rather than operating as a purely transactional intermediary.
  • Transferable relationships or a credible active network, subject to contractual obligations.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of a product or market and deciding how best to grow it.
  • Collaborative and willing to work across biofuels, RINs and other related desks.
  • Strong professional ethics, discretion and communication skills.

This opportunity will suit an environmental markets broker who wants the support and relationships of a wider platform without being forced into a narrow corporate structure. The firm backs experienced people, expects them to exercise sound judgement and gives them the freedom to build.
