Title: Scrap Metal Yard Manager

Imperium Commodity Search is working with a scrap metal trading firm based in London, looking to hire a yard manager for a newly acquired scrap metals facility in the Midlands.  Our client is a back to back trading house of non-ferrous and base metals (primarily aluminium) with offices in London and the Continent.  Due to an internal move of existing headcount towards a sales function, there has been an opening for an experienced yard manager to manage the day to day operations of the assets in the Midlands.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day to day management and operations of the scrap metal yard
  • Ensure accurate and timely headcount is available for the smooth operation of the yard
  • Ensure health and safety legislation is met and adhered to at all times, assisting with relevant training/disciplinaries where required
  • Strong quality control and identification focus; ensuring the scrap metals (alulminium) is of the correct grade/quantity
  • Work closely with logistics providers to ensure traffic operation is maintained and timely
  • Liaise with internal trading teams on storage, supply and stock of the yard
  • Work with sales side team on specifications and requirements of clients/sales side customers
  • Conduct training and regular refreshers on quality control measures
  • Other tasks as may be required through the day to day operations of the scrap metals yard

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience as a yard manager or senior operations manager within a scrap yard, preferably with a focus on aluminium
  • 10+ years’ experience in scrap metal at a yard or processor
  • Strong knowledge of quality control functions and measures
  • Good health and safety knowledge
  • Previous management experience is essential
  • Personable, approachable and hard working
  • Located in the Midlands (Birmingham Area) or able to relocate
