Imperium Commodity Search is working with a diversified financial services and capital markets business in London with aggressive growth plans across a number of product areas.  The current structure operates across commodity product brokerage, structured products sales and real estate fund management.  Presently, the firm is front office heavy and requires an experienced operations manager with a background in a fund, real estate or structured products to join the team and implement operational procedures, overseeing the entire operations function for the financial side of their business.

This position represents an excellent opportunity to join a mid sized boutique with aggressive growth plans and potential at an early stage, growing in seniority with the business as it grows and longer term overseeing a wider remit of functions and headcount.  You will be working directly with front office staff, analysts and directors on ensuring smooth operations across the fund and products desk, actively seeking out operational efficiencies and processes, making a direct impact on the profitability and growth of the wider desk and business.

This is a position where attitude and soft skills are key – yes you will need operational experience within the right industry, but the critical component is the ability to whip a business into shape from an operational standpoint, and ensure things run smoothly and to the benefit of the organisation.  You will be in a position of power in the business whilst being directly responsible for realising the improvements in day to day operations across the real estate, fund and structured products desks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure smooth operational fluidity of a diverse desk across the relevant product areas
• Act as a key member of staff across funds and structured products, working with senior management/directors on operational efficiencies and improvements across the business
• Work with external counterparties, suppliers and third parties to ensure all of the required cogs in a fast moving machine are present, correct and well serviced
• Liaise with staff across numerous functions on the desk to ensure everything is operating as efficiently as possible, dealing with problems and issues in a rapid and accurate manner
• Implement operational improvements across the fund/structured products desk to ensure ongoing fluidity of business operations

Experience:

• 5+ years in an operations manager (or similar) position in a fund, brokerage or financial institution
• Softs skills across punctuality, drive and man management are critical
• Used to a fast paced financial services environment with the ability to keep a cool head when issues arise
• Good understanding of fund and/or structured products
• True desire to improve a businesses operations function in a visible and meaningful way
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience in dealing with third parties and suppliers to a front office team in financial services, capital markets or a fund
